The book is part memoir, part cookbook, as the author describes how cooking and writing about food helped her heal from an aneurism she suffered at the age of 28.

Discover & Go Month

Win prizes including premium awards for some of the Bay Area's most popular attractions! For every donation of nonperishable food items you bring to the food drive at any of our branches, you can enter a special drawing. You can also enter an easy online contest, “Why I Love Discover & Go”. 

There will be an engineering extravaganza for kids hosted by the Bay Area Discovery Museum. The event will be held Saturday, October 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the San Ramon Library. There will also be pop-up storytimes at the Blackhawk Museum in Danville on Sunday, October 21 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and Halloween-themed storytimes at the Lindsay Wildlife Experience’s Howl-ooo-ween event on Thursday, October 25 at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Kensington and El Cerrito Library are excited to announce our 2018 One City One Book selection: The 57 Bus: A True Story of Two Teenagers and the Crime That Changed Their Lives, by Dashka Slater.

One moment that changes both of their lives forever.

The 57 Bus is Oakland journalist Dashka Slater's true account of an agender teen set on fire by another teen while riding the bus in Oakland. This riveting, heartbreaking book delves into issues of race, class, gender, crime, and punishment, and will provoke thoughtful discussions on these topics from all who read it.

Free copies of The 57 Bus are available while supplies last at the following locations:

Day of the Dead Exhibit - Dia De Los Muertos Altar

Dia de Muertos is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and other parts of Latin America, and by people of Mexican ancestry living in other places, especially in the United States.  It is acknowledged internationally in many other cultures.  Celebrated from October 31st through November 2nd.

Come visit this cultural exhibit at the Lafayette Library & Learning Center to learn more or participate by making an "ofrenda" honoring the deceased in your lives.

The story follows the spoiled princess Ofelia on her birthday. Her life is changed by a chance meeting with a frog – who we know to be a handsome prince, transformed by a witch. When she loses her new golden ball down a well, the princess promises to grant the frog three wishes in exchange for the ball’s recovery.
